Just read that the US stock market is about to collapse tomorrow because of the Brexit. All of our markets are about to drop 4-5% in the morning according to current predictions. That’s not far below the early days of the 2008 collapse. And that’s going to somehow be blamed on Obama, which is not good for the Democrats in November. The UK’s fascists kind of just fucked over the entire world.
No. It managed to fuck over the US. Shockingly, the U.S and Europe are not the whole fucking world. The rest of us exist and we are much larger than the US and UK combined. We’ll be fine. Let’s not act as if y'all are a superpower that can effect us anymore. You’re not.
The US is 24.6% of the global economy. The EU is 21.9% of the global economy (26% if the UK is included). Both are large enough trading partners with the other economic powers that trouble for us means trouble for China, which makes up 15% of the global economy, and Japan, which makes up another 6%. Between just those four nations/entities, even if no other nation is affected in any way (which is obviously impossible), it has a negative effect on 71.6% of the global economy.
So maybe take a moment to think before you speak, especially if you’re going to get self-righteous on a subject you clearly know less than nothing about.
And that’s part of the problem. Both the US and the EU are some of the biggest economies because of their imperialist natures. Where would your economy be if you weren’t constantly invading and bombing other countries? If you weren’t exploiting us and stealing our resources? Let’s not act as if your huge presence in the global economy just happened to come about without huge negative impact on other nations.
Why should you be a huge part of the global economy? Who decided this was good and that we should work to keep it that way? Worse, that it should remain that way on threat of ruining other economies? World economies stabilize and hopefully this time it’ll be with less dependence on the West.
Do you also think that just because former French colonies’ economies were threatened when France was forced to decolonize, that they should have remained in the grip of France?
Americans, even American POC, believe in the supposed special nature and superiority of America. Watch South Asia not give a fuck. Watch Southeast Asia get stronger.
It’s so easy for Americans to wax lyrical about the importance of their country but none of you give a fuck when anything happens to the rest of us.
You’re not the world. You’re not the most important thing in the world. And now, hopefully, you won’t be the most important economy in the world.
The rest of us aren’t unhappy about it. Cos that’s how we’ve been living for a longtime. This is a subject you know very little about. Which is why you didn’t understand what I was saying.
Yeah, @steviemcfly, you’re absolutely right in saying those figures. They’re absolutely correct.
But I’d also like to make note that the population of the United States makes up 4.48% of the world population. The UK makes up 0.886%.
So, basically, what you’re saying is that just over seven-tenths of the world economy is dependent on the actions of less than one-twentieth of the world population.
So, maybe, sure, we’ll get fucked. Maybe, even, a little more fucked than we were before? But we got fucked because of the actions of, literally, the top 1% of the world, deciding to stab themselves in the face.
And we’re supposed to care about you? We’re supposed to have sympathy? Uh huh. You’re cute. No. At least we can live with the fact that if we get fucked, it wasn’t our damn fault.
Once the dust settles, here’s hoping for a more equitable arrangement on who gets to say whose lives get ruined. Because, evidently, you lot weren’t very good at it.
Did I say it was a good thing for the West to have disproportionate economic stake in the world? Hell no. So shut your fucking mouth if you’re going to run it like that, you rude piece of shit. I don’t know who the fuck you think you’re talking to, but I am not him.
I’m not saying it’s good for four countries/entities to control 72% of the world’s economy. That’s ridiculous and indicative of huge problems. But you know what? It’s the fucking reality. And you know what that means? It still fucking affects “you lot” when bad things happen because idiots decide to self-sabotage “us lot.” And I’m not prepared to watch people suffer among “us lot” and “you lot” because of it. Especially given that when these things happen, no matter how you imagine it in your naive little head, it affects those other economies worse.
This is not a situation where you sit back and laugh at the things that happen to people who are not you. Which, you know, would be fucked anyway, because I can tell you right now that I (a black man living in my twenties living in Brooklyn with medical and student debt out the ass) had nothing to do with imperialism or the Brexit vote, and neither did the people in this country or any other Western country worse off than me. But it’s a situation that’s going to affect everyone, including your dumb ass, and that’s a problem.

The U.K. has been meddling in the affairs of other countries for centuries. They’ve been invading, colonising, terrorising, pillaging and destabilising so many countries yet have an issue with immigrants coming over here to create a better life for themselves.
It was so cheeky when Farage said they should mark today as the UK’s Independence Day knowing how many countries had to fight to free themselves of the UK… Fight to have control over their own resources/money/government/people. So many lives were lost and the affect of colonialism is still present. The toxic ideologies they brought with them have remained and we still have not healed from the damage they’ve caused. Farage and his followers are scum.
